I am writing in 2007 about a holiday in 2001 so memory is vague. But we took a day trip around the Island on a boat which included stops for a serious walk up a hillside to a supposed smuggler's cave, then later stopped again on a small un-inhabited Island where there once was a monestry. It was a great day out. I found some images on another website ... which convey well what it is like!
Scooter Hire Author: Brian
We hired a small motor scooter for a few days. An effect way to independently explore the Island. There is a bit of hairy road with a steep drop off into the valley on the way to/from the Vathi Orange Grove. But it is well worth visiting if you like quite, remote places. There's a small beach + some sort of bar/cafe.
Scuba Diving Author: Brian
We booked a half day trip with an operator located in the main harbour area. It was our first venture into scuba diving. The scuba boat took as a little way around the Island to a quiet cove with a pebble beach, were we sat in shallow water as we learned how to breath with the scuba. Then we dove to several metres. A great introduction to scuba.
Trip to Kos Author: Brian
We decided leave our appartment and to take the boat to Kos and camp for a few days. We had come prepared ... with a back-packer tent in our suitcase! We booked the boat from the main harbour on Kalymnos and easily found a campsite just on the out-skirts of Kos. We got around on push-bikes. I recommend the 'ladies' saddle ... unless you bike regularly. Say no more!
